Norwell MA is a town found in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Norwell is located on the South Shore of Massachusetts and is bordered by Hanover and Rockland on the west, Pembroke on the south and Marshfield and Scituate on the east and northeast, and Hingham on the north. According to the United States Census Bureau, Norwell has a total area of 21.2 square miles (55 km²). 20.9 square miles (54 km²) is land while 0.3 square miles (0.78 km²) is water. 

Norwell is approximately 14 miles east of Brockton, 17 miles north of Plymouth and 20 miles south of Boston. Most of the town’s eastern borders are found along the North River where lots of shipbuilding factories were once located. Other brooks and ponds found in Norwell include Third Herring Brook (this constitutes majority of Norwell’s border with Hanover), Accord Pond (found at the junction of Norwell), Rockland and Hingham and Jacobs Pond (found along Route 123). The northern half of Norwell is hilly.

The early settlers in Norwell were attracted to the town for agricultural purpose. The town later developed a major shipbuilding industry which was based on the North and Northwest rivers. Norwell was the home to some of the finest frigates, schemers, whalers and merchant vessels.

There is no rail or air service within Norwell. However, the Greenbush line of the MBTA’s commuter rail in Scituate is the nearest rail service to the town. Marshfield Municipal Airport is the nearest regional airport while the nearest national and international airport can be found at Logan International Airport, Boston.
